Network devices

These hardware devices which are used to connect computers, scanner, printer and many other electronic devices to a network are called, Network devices.

Router
Hub
Repeater

Bridge
Gateway

1.Switch- Switch is a hardware device, which connects computers to other devices. It is a multi-port device, which improve the efficiency of a computer network.Normally switches can read the hardware address from incoming data packets to transmit them to its destination. Switches works on data_link layer of OSI model.

2. Router- Router is a network device, which forwards data packets between computer network. Router read the destination IP address of a given data packet and use routing table to choose the vest way to transmit data packet. A router works on third layer(Network layer) of OSI model.

3. Repeater- Repeater is used to extend the weak signal. Repeater receive weak signal and regenerate or boost up before it destroy this, then transmit it. Repeaters works on Physical layer of OSI model.

4. Hub- Hub basically works like repeater. That amplify signal over the same network. It is multi_port repeater.

Types of hub

There are two types of hub are available-

Active hub
Passive hub

Active hub- These hubs has own power supply to boost up and clean the signal along the network.

Passive hub- These hub collect power supply from active hubs. These hubs can't clean or boost up signal on the network.

5. Modem- Modem stands for- (Modulator - demodulator). Modems are used to transmit digital signal over analog signal lines( like- Telephone lines). It modulate(converts) analog signal to digital signal and Demodulate digital signal into analog signal.

6. Bridge- Bridge is a computer network device. Which provides interconnection with other bridge network which use same protocol. Bridge works on Data link layer of OSI model, to connecting two different connection and communicate between them.
